Tesla Inc. (TSLA) fell 0.7% to $375.00 in the latest session. The latest catalyst in the headlines: TSLA Stock Climbs Overnight As Cybercab Eyes Dallas — Musk Recalls When Shorts Had Tesla In ‘Checkmate’ (Stocktwits). TSLA also ranks #12 among the most-discussed stocks on social media, with 16 mentions in the past 24 hours, up 33% from the prior day.

Headlines tell you what happened. The money tells you what traders and insiders are doing about it. Below, we run TSLA through the GTA Terminal (the options-flow, insider, institutional and congressional trackers our Pro members use) to see what's happening beneath the surface.

What the options market is saying

Options traders exchanged 749,659 calls and 499,865 puts on TSLA, a put/call volume ratio of 0.67. In dollar terms, about $543.9M of premium went into calls versus $291.8M into puts (65% call-side): a call-heavy tape that suggests traders are positioning for upside.

Open interest, the positions still on the books, shows a put/call ratio of 0.77 (2,972,721 call contracts vs. 2,291,363 puts outstanding), so the existing book is tilted toward calls.

The heaviest activity clustered in the Oct 16 expiration, where $169.1M of premium changed hands (74% in calls).

Several contracts traded more volume than their existing open interest, a sign of new positions being opened rather than old ones being closed:

  • $385 calls expiring Oct 16: 28,952 contracts vs. 10,137 open interest, about $20.1M in premium (out of the money)
  • $660 puts expiring Dec 15, 2028: 625 contracts vs. 21 open interest, about $17.9M in premium (in the money)
  • $180 calls expiring Oct 23: 829 contracts vs. 1 open interest, about $16.9M in premium (in the money)
  • $385 puts expiring Oct 12: 31,558 contracts vs. 192 open interest, about $14.0M in premium (in the money)

For the nearest expiration (Oct 12), max pain, the strike where the most option holders would lose money, sits at $370, 1.3% below the current price.
